Which side of the line you are on
The two halves of Chartham are a short distance apart and behave completely differently. Near the church and the old mill the streets are narrow and the river is close; over at Shalmsford Street the roads are wider, the housing newer and there is off-street parking on most of it.
A move between the two, which happens more often than you would think, is really two different jobs at either end of a five-minute drive. We plan them that way rather than assuming what worked at the collection will work at the delivery.
Valley lanes and the river
Some homes here sit down lanes that drop towards the water, and a few of those are narrow enough that a large van has no business attempting them. Where that is the case we bring something smaller or plan a carry from the top rather than committing and hoping.
The valley floor can also be soft after a wet spell. We keep a loaded vehicle off ground we do not trust, since the few extra yards of carrying cost far less than the alternative.
Shalmsford Street and the newer housing
The Shalmsford Street side is the straightforward half: drives, turning room, and doorways cut for furniture people actually own. Full house moves there generally run without anything needing to come apart.
It is also well placed for moves out along the valley towards Chilham and Ashford, which are common enough from here to be routine. Those are priced door to door so the distance is settled before anything is loaded.
